Maddie Schaefer

Maddie Schaefer (former last name Lips) practices in the areas of civil rights, employment discrimination, criminal defense, and constitutional law. Prior to joining Killmer Lane, Maddie worked as a public defender for the Colorado State Public Defender in Arapahoe County where she litigated on behalf of indigent clients facing criminal charges. She also worked as an immigration attorney in the employment context. During law school, Maddie worked on federal and state criminal cases, helped low-income workers fight for their employment rights through the La Raza Workers’ Rights Clinic, and assisted immigrants seeking asylum through the California Asylum Representation Clinic, the East Bay Community Law Center’s Immigration Clinic, and at a family detention center in South Texas.

Maddie obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she was a Social Justice Scholar with the Thelton E. Henderson Center for Social Justice. She graduated with a certificate in Public Interest and Social Justice and Pro Bono Honors with Highest Distinction. She was also a member of the Berkeley Law Trial Team. Maddie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Yale University where she graduated with Honors.

Maddie is admitted to practice law in the state of Colorado and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.
